Finn and Mitch's Summer Adventures

Well, it seems like we've finally adjusted to being a family of four. Everyone is doing well...Mitch is sleeping pretty well at night (although I'm sure writing this is extremely bad luck and I'll probably be up with him all night:). He eats about every 2 hours during the day and then goes down after his last feeding around 10:00pm. We've also been giving him a bottle of a little extra milk right before bed and then he sleeps until 2:00am. On good nights, he goes back down until 5:00 or 5:30am (but occasionally he wakes up one other time around 4:00am or so). He really likes to be held, so I end up carrying him in the wrap or the sling most of the day so I can keep up with Finn and have my hands free to pluck him from whatever his latest injury or disaster may be. Mitch likes his bath and Finn loves helping me by washing his feet and dumping water everywhere.

Finn also seems to be doing well. I'm constantly amazed by how many words he knows and am always trying to figure out where and how he's picking up all of this language. He's into imitating us when we count, but tends to favor the number 5, so counting sounds like this, "one, five, five, five, five". :) He still loves trucks, trains, cars, and airplanes and is also fascinated by lawn mowers and the vacuum cleaner, which he calls the "baccum". His relationship with the vacuum seems to be of the "love/hate" variety though (screaming with excitement when I bring it out, and then shrieking with fear as I move from room to room...but can't help getting up close to check it out). His latest favorite phrases: "Whayou?" (where are you?), "Here I come!", "Uh oh! Oh no! Boo boo!" (when anything drops or when he falls), "hurts" (when he gets a boo boo). He's also fascinated by the potty, can it possibly be time for potty training already? Didn't we just bring him home from the hospital? Wait...that was almost 2 years ago. So stay tuned for potty training updates (although at this point I'm not doing anything except putting a little potty in the bathroom and seeing how much interest he has in it). Here are some recent pictures of our summer adventures.

Having Dad Home Is The Best!

We were lucky enough to have Drew home for almost two weeks after Mitch was born and it truly felt like a family vacation! I was feeling pretty good most of the time, so we were able to go on a few adventures and really enjoy our time together. Mostly though, it was great for Finn to get some special time with his dad and to feel like he wasn't getting lost in the shuffle.

A quick funny Finn story: his latest attention-getting trick is to climb up on toys and other objects and laugh at me when I tell him to get down. Annoying and a bit dangerous when I'm feeding the baby and can't make it to him before the inevitable fall occurs. He had been climbing up on his ride-on truck all day and I kept telling him to please get down, you're going to get a boo boo, etc. He would laugh and I would say "It's not funny." Finally, right before bed, he climbed up on top of the truck again, turned to me with a devilish smile, and said, "It funny." I had trouble keeping a straight face for this one. Stinker.

Welcome Baby Mitch!

We're so happy to announce the arrival of Mitchell White Heffron! He was born at 5:21am on May 30th weighing in at a whopping 9 lbs 10 oz! He's as sweet as can be and Finn is loving being a big brother. He wakes up every morning smiling and saying "Baby! Where are you?" He tries to say "Mitch", but it sounds like "Me". He is very interested in the baby and learning to be gentle (as gentle as an 18 month old can be). In the 2 days we were in the hospital, Finn's vocabulary appears to have quadrupled and he's now even using short phrases like "where are you?", "here you go", "where daddy?". He's becoming quite a performer too and loves having all of the visitors over to see the new baby (although he thinks they're here just to see him!). Here are some of Mitchell's first pictures. For some reason, the pictures of Mitch and Finn with the Heffron cousins would not load onto my computer - don't worry Grandma, they're coming soon! :)
