February 2010 Update

Oops! We had a little lapse there in our blog. Between keeping up with Finn and being slowed down by a big tummy, there hasn’t been much time for writing and uploading pictures. We’ve also been having kind of a boring winter, so not much to report. Just watching Finn get bigger by the minute and getting excited for the new baby!

Finn has a whole new set of tricks these days. He’s really started walking like crazy in the last few days, although he often prefers to walk on his knees or to crawl. He’s saying a lot of new words: “shoe”, “bye-bye” (di-di), “Jack” (Ja), “ball” (ba) and a couple of others. He’s signing a lot of words too: “more”, “eat”, “diaper”, “bath”, and he made up his own sign for “brush teeth”! What’s even more fun to see is how many words and pictures he understands. He will go to his shelf and get a book if you ask him to and he’s pointing to pictures in his books and showing that he knows what they are (e.g. pointing to a picture of a hat and then pointing to his head, pointing to a picture of someone brushing teeth and signing “brush teeth”).

He makes noises for cars, trucks, dinosaurs, and ducks whenever he sees them, although he still tends to roar like a lion when he sees most animals. We call it the "mad cow" or the "rabid cat" when he does it. :) It’s so neat to see how much he’s learning. He also does a great imitation of me that captures how much I gesture with my hands when I talk (which must be a lot!).

A Visit From Grandma and a Handsome New 'Do

Grandma Heffron has been making life SO much easier for us lately by helping us with our grocery shopping. Thank you Grandma! Here’s a picture of Finn enjoying a visit with her.

He also got his first haircut this morning! He was really good – no fussing or crying at all. And we think he looks very dapper:

Winter Olympians

Finn and Drew’s latest winter hobby has been crosscountry skiing/sledding. Drew figured out a way to harness Finn’s sled to his waist when he goes skiing and Finn just gets to sit back and enjoy the ride! It may be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and when they come back from a skiing adventure, Finn is so happy and excited – babbling and acting like he has so much to tell me about what they did and what he saw. The cold also wears him out, which makes for great naps on skiing days!

Trip to the Zoo

We took a trip to the rainforest with the Gilbrides on one of my days off. The kids spent most of the morning climbing up and jumping off of a boulder near the monkeys. So Erin and I just relaxed and enjoyed watching all the monkeys play together.

I see the resemblance...

Gavin's Birthday Party

We had a great time at Gavin's 1st birthday party at the end of January! Finn had a blast playing with his cousins and their friends. They even had a big inflatable bouncy house for the kids to play in! Finn loved it! Gavin seemed like he was having fun too - he's getting to be such a big boy!
Here's a picture of the birthday boy - not at his happiest moment of the day. But he perked up once they brought out that birthday cake!
